Plants & AI
How do I add a new plant?
Tap the + icon in the top-right corner of the Home screen, then photograph your plant and PlantAI will identify it automatically.
Once identified, give your plant a nickname, confirm the species, and it will appear in your collection. You can add unlimited plants on any PlantAI plan.
How accurate is the AI diagnosis?
PlantAI uses GPT-4o to analyse your plant photos. Accuracy is highest when images are taken in good lighting conditions.
For best results, ensure your photos are:
- Well-lit with natural or soft artificial light
- In focus and taken at close range (20 to 40 cm)
- Showing the affected area, like a yellowing leaf or spotted stem
For rare species or unusual symptoms, we recommend confirming AI suggestions with a local horticulturalist.
The camera isn't working. What should I do?
If the camera is unresponsive or the app cannot access it, try these steps in order:
Check permissions. Open your phone's Settings, find PlantAI, and ensure Camera access is set to Allow.
Restart the app. Fully close PlantAI and reopen it.
Restart your device. A reboot often resolves camera conflicts with other apps.
Check for updates. Open the App Store and update to the latest version of PlantAI.
Re-install the app. Your data is backed up to the cloud, so uninstalling and reinstalling will not cause data loss.
If the problem persists, contact support with your device model and OS version.
Can I use PlantAI without internet?
The camera and photo capture features work offline. You can photograph your plants at any time without a connection. AI analysis (species identification and health checks) requires an active internet connection, and results will not be available until connectivity is restored.
Care & reminders
How do watering reminders work?
When you add a plant, PlantAI automatically calculates a recommended watering interval based on the species and the current season.
You can customise the schedule any time by opening the plant's Plant Profile screen and adjusting frequency or time of day.
Reminders are delivered as push notifications. If you aren't receiving them, check that notifications are enabled for PlantAI in your device settings and that Do Not Disturb is not active. You can also manage all reminders from the Alerts tab inside the app.
How do I log that I've watered my plant?
Go to the Dashboard and find your plant in the Care Due Today section, then tap Log Watering.
You can also log a watering from the Alerts tab: find the relevant care alert and tap Log Watering to mark it complete.
What do the health status badges mean?
Each plant in your collection displays a health status badge so you can see its condition at a glance:
- Thriving: the plant is healthy and all care tasks are up to date.
- Needs Water: a watering task is due or overdue.
- Stress Detected: the AI has flagged a potential health issue that needs your attention.
How do I delete a plant from my collection?
Swipe left on the plant card on the Home screen and tap Delete, or open the plant's profile, scroll to the bottom, and tap Remove Plant.
Deletion is permanent and removes all associated health check history, photos, and care logs.
